THE OZY YOUTH CHOIR ”POUR
LE DEVOIR DE MÉMOIRE 2020
(THE DUTY OF REMEMBRANCE)” TOUR
The OZY Youth Choir Honouring Defence Service launched its second singing tour. 2020 Devoir de Memoire (Duty of Remembrance) singing tour of the Western Front.
It was a very special and emotional evening on Thursday 10 October 2019. Anne Boillon, the Consul-General of France, helped us launch the Tour. Speaking about the importance of remembering the sacrifices made during World War 1 and our shared memory with France and Belgium.
Our Choir proudly sung many songs and in three part harmony.
Thankyou to Phillippe Osterman, to the Board, everyone at Alliance Francaise in Sydney and those who made the effort to come.
After the success of their first singing Remembrance Tour, to mark the end of the Centenary of ANZAC in December 2018, the “Pour le devoir de mémoire 2020 (Duty of Remembrance)” Tour will see the choir take another group of 20 young people to sing on the Western Front as part of our collective duty of remembrance for the next generation.
From the emotion of laying a wreath and singing at the Revival of the Eternal Flame at the Arc De Triumph. Singing in the trenches and holding commemorative services at memorials on the battlefields each day. The lighter side of singing Christmas Carols in the Bayeux Cathedral and exploring Paris Disneyland. This is a unique opportunity to honour and strengthen Franco-Australian relations and to continue to teach young people the importance of our shared memory.
More than a choir, we, The OZY Youth Choir Honouring Defence Service, bring music and history together to inspire and develop young leaders with a focus on commemoration, education and welfare. We bring civilians, veterans and current serving defence families together in regional and rural areas across Australia through the arts. Our unique choir gives everyone a place to belong (regardless of where they are posted) and a place to shine.
Practicing mostly online, we come together to perform for local, national and international events. We are a seriously fun choir with a community spirit bringing the spirit of the Aussie bush to the stage. While we take commemoration seriously, we are a little bit quirky or “larrikin" and like to have fun just like the Singin’ Soldiers of WWI (as CJ Dennis put it)!
Please help these 20 young people do the Deviour de Memoir Tour.
We estimate that the cost per young person will be about $10,000 each for the 2020 tour, this first goal will go towards the initial cost of deposit.
